Re: X1 box issue, program jumps back in time after pausing and hitting play

Thanks Rustyben, my issue is more like this: phone rings, I pause the live tv show, come back 20-30 minutes later, hit play, then try to fast forward through the commercial, ff starts but play button no longer responds, can hit the rewind as well, but play will not work. The pause time has sometimes extended over the live show time, but not always. Is there a fix for this bug? I guess if I need to pause for longer than a few minutes, I should record the show, but sometimes you don't know how long the call/interruption will take. Thanks again.

is the set top box you had this problem on a DVR? or a companion? would you get the model and firmware and xre versions off the about screen?

xfinity >> Gear (settings) >> about.  you will see STB version and XRE version

I agree. And I have pretty bad vision. I understand that we can pretty much get to whatever so we want with the Xfinity Voice guide. HOWEVER, if I want to just scroll through the menu I literally have to be standing in front of the TV.

This might have been a bad idea.

If you happen to have a smart device (phone/tablet) that is an apple or android system you can use the xfinity TV Remote app or the xfinity TV app. The TV remote app has black on white text and is easily scrollable (listings and on demand searches).

Update for anyone who may have been following this thread: I went to the comcast center today and like you mentioned, they assured me they no longer allow mixing and matching with the x1 and legacy equipment on the same account. It's basically an all or nothing with the x1. I decided to get 2 newer stand alone DVRs, and 2 non DVR HD Boxes to replace the 4 older DVRs I was using before. It only ended up costing $10 more than the x1 and It's worth it in my opinion for the reliability. Based on all the issues i've read and my own first impression I feel as though the tried and tested legacy platform is best at this time. I won't attempt to "upgrade" to the x1 again anytime soon, but perhaps in the future when it becomes refined like the legacy platform and I feel the need for apps and what not I will give it another shot.

previous thread customer had called 800-comcast and spoke to billing to get the billing system to have a mixture of x1 and 'legacy' although the reason then was to watch the assets on the legacy DVR and then return it.

on monday call 800 comcast and select billing. explain what you wish to do and let them work it out for you. Sales only seems to push X1. previous threads have had some success in a mixture of x1 and legacy that was approved and coded to work together by the billing department.

well nbc IS comcast (same company). but the CBS source provides what entertainment that they desire to customers/comcast.

Hello

Thank you for the update on the installation scheduled foe 03/14/16 8:00am- 10:00 am

I am requesting that the tech have all of the necessary equipment on his truck when he arrives

my reason for being cautious is in 3 previous attempts to install non of the techs were prepared

and did not have the right or proper equipment on their truck to do a professional installation.

Here is what I want the tech to have on his truck for my package order

ONE-(X1 STARTER DOUBLE PLAY) - ONE - 1X HD DVR

TWO- (ADDITIONAL OUTLETS ) TWO-  1X-HD-RECEIVERS

ONE- 1X(SPEED INCRESE(150MPBS WIRELESS GATEWAY MODEM -ONE UPGRADE 1X-UPGRADE MODEM

THREE- (3) 1X REMOTES WITH VOICE ACTIVATION- 3(THREE) REMOTES

I again requested that the tech be prepared to have all of the listed equipment on his and available when he arrives

so that the installation can be preformed without any further problems delays or hitches

you need at minimum

1 xg1 DVR

1 XG2

1 Xi3 or XiD (or another XG2)

you should have latest modem 3rd generation that includes 2.5 ghz and 5.0 ght wifi.

the reason for the xg2 minimum one each is that it has up to 4 tuners 3 that can be used by the xi3 or xiD set top boxes in your home. That leaves all 6 Xg1 tuners available to record programming.

I just sat down to watch a show I recorded Saturday March 17, 2016 at 9pm. Investigation Discovery, I'd Kill For You, season 3, episode 9 titled Agent of Death. Recorded on SD channel because the ID show at 8pm was recorded on HD channel and I have to add a minute to end of 99% of everything I record in order to get the last 20 or seconds of the show. Since X1 will not clip the beginning of the following show on the same channel my method works to get the end of a show.

Anyway, it was starting to get good.

Suddenly, without warning, at the 11 minute mark I was presented with a black screen with white letters that said DVR.

Not knowing what happened I started the show again, fast forwarded to the 9 minute mark and once again at 11 minutes the black screen.

I will never know who got murdered, who did it and why. The espisode is not set to be shown again anytime in the near future. That show is not available in On Demand.

But wait, there's more. Another show on a different channel set to record at 9pm stopped at the 12 minute mark. Another black screen. No future airings of the show. MeTV is not part of On Demand.

When my husband discovers that Svengoolie-Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1942) he will not be a happy camper and I will have to listen to him fuss, once again, about the X1 system and how he had it better with his legacy box.

Alas, my 8 year old grand-daughter, who loves the old Frankenstein and Dracula movies, will not get to see that one when she is here in 2 weeks. He saves those for her viewing pleasure. The child has become a fan of Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney-both are in the movie that only lasts 12 minutes.

There was no power outage. No interruption of X1 service. No emergency broadcast alerts.

So why did the only 2 shows set up for 9pm recording present us with a (not so) lovely black screen?

It was just starting to get really good when, suddenly, at the 11 minute mark, the screen went black with big white letters that said DVR.

Having no clue what happened, I started watching it again and fast forwarded to the 9 minute mark. Once again, at 11 minutes a black screen.

All indications are that the entire show recorded.

So now I will never know who got murdered, who did it and why it was done.

The episode is not scheduled to air anytime in the near future. That show is not available in On Demand.

to trouble shoot this issue it would be great if you have enabled the cloud DVR. If the recordings have been deleted, recover them from the deleted items folder and then view in the xfinity X1 app or at web page for desk/laptop at http://xtv.comcast.net

But, I saw that there was a new update and decided to try again on my iPad. It still gives me an error message but with a different error code:3005. I do not want to waste my time talking on the phone and getting no answers. All I would like is for my app to work on my iPad. Please help.

do you have an iphone/android phone and if so, does the app work there?

easy to just uninstall the app, then reinstall it, login, and it should be working fine.

do you by chance mean to say that the cloud DVR has more recorded assets than does the home DVR asset listings (xfinity>>saved>>recordings)?

when you delete an asset on the DVR(s) in the home do you see message that the recording is deleted? does the listing still 'stay' but when you hit ok on the listing is there an error message?

The only way we caan change this is for evryone to complain loud and often.

Comcasts top of the line system is at the bottom of storage technology.

Today it erased down to 70 % because it erased evrything from the sameday.

Most of what it erased is not available for viewing.

Thanks comcast.

You are living up to your reputation.

you are fighting gravity and a decline/collapse of demand for DVR service as the consumer of entertainment has moved toward streamed content. For those of us left, the future appears to be no 'real' DVR in the home at all just as there is no demand for VCRs in the home now.

the future as seen by technology at this point seems to be streaming with the adaption of the DVR in the cloud that is available to us, the consumers, on any device in the home, and available for download where security is approved, for watching of assets where no internet at all may be available at the place of watching the recorded assets.

with the DVR in the cloud, comcast and other MSOs will be able to offer as many 'tuners' as you wish to pay for and storage in the cloud limited by how much space you are willing to pay for monthly. In my opinion there will probably be tiers of packages and even flexible packages so that you move up and down in the tiers depending on how much you actually consume that month. take your eSATA drive and use it on your PC (if you still use one that can access it) or sell it or donate to your local charity.

I still have mine but my desktop, now 3 years old has an esata port but don't need 1 TB drive as smallest drive I have attached is 2 tb. My next device will probably not have eSATA but will have moved on to either USBv3 or something later in design.

One customer has shown a screenshot of their DVR progress bar during a recorded playback where there is a little cloud symbol to left of the word DVR on right side. No one else has talked about this feature so it might have been a beta/alpha feature test that leaked. If it wasn't a hoax in the screenshot it would seem to demonstrate that if the cloud DVR has an asset that the local DVR doesn't have, the asset will play just as if local but will show that icon showing the source the asset is stored (DVR in the cloud). Why this feature would not already be available is beyond my comprehension since the set top box is 'the' premier secured device that comcast provides. time will tell.

technology has moved on. Progress happens. the future is cloud-based DVR service for those that want other than on-demand streaming. With cloud-based DVR you will basically pay for what you want to have available in tuners and storage.

I think they should asap let the alpha feature go to beta and let us get teh cloud stuff on the DVR.

It is a perfect fix for having to change out the DVR issues and losing recordings.

I've lost recordings like that with no power failure when they run those EAS announcements.
