WPS is a method/option to add a device 'automatically' that is waiting to connect to your wifi network. the 'press' of the button times out (turns off the feature) in a few seconds and will not interfere with your internet. Likely that was a coincidence.
would you reply with your 'modem'/gateway model number and state the wifi router name and model if you have a separate router? Are the wired ethernet connections working normally? For example, how did your forum post get to the internet?
