I've been having troubles for 2+ years but the house has been wired for 15. Sometimes I'm good for months and other times I'm only good for hours. I've had numerous techs come out and they indicate there is a huge drop in signal from the box in the street to my house. I have RJ11 and the underground run is about 250'. Worse yet is that I'm at the end of the line. On a bad day my signal is -1dBmV D/S with 43 dBmV U/S. On a good day I get -12 dBmV D/S. My modem is about 24" from the drop coming into my house. Wiring inside is great and they also have all of the boosters and such there.
The latest tech says I need a plant extension to get the box closer than 250'. Who will pay for that and how does it get scheduled? If they go at closest point at curb, that's still 185'. My feeling is that the current RJ11 needs to be replaced. The timing of my lost signals seems to coincide with bad weather and when the landscaping mowers are nearby. How do I get someone from Comcast to address the issue? The phone based help just doesn't seem to have the ability to address the issue and the field based seems to want to pass the issue on to the next guy.
I can use some advice. This is ridiculous that I'm without Internet as much as I'm with it.
hi, another customer here, retired with a bit of experience.
You are talking about telco 'local' wiring and not coax (cable company provided video and data)? Do you have comcast internet service? Does a coax connect to your home at an interface box? Do you also have cable TV service from comcast?
Why / how would a Comcast tech ever recommend a "plant extension" about *RJ11*...
I couldn't imagine. Only idea I could think of is someone plugged in a Pots line into the ethernet jack.
