To the terminology we know and use the DVR is an XG1, and the other boxes are called companions (no physical DVR). If you have 6 DVRs you wouild have 6(dvrs)*6(tuners) for 36 that you can watch/record at one time. your problem you describe is one DVR with too many companions each taking a tuner so you can't record 6 channels as the DVR tuners are in use by the companions.
The XG2 companion has 4 tuenrs and it is designated to give up to 3 tuners to the companion boxes as needed.
The size of the DVR (XG1) and companions (XG2 or xi3 or xiD or rng150) are different with the DVR and XG2 being larger than the smaller Xi3/XiD devices. can you recheck the ones you have?
