i conclude that the new X1 firmware looks for connections on the X1 component cable outputs and if they are there, they shut down the X1 box unless the Hdmi connector is active. My conclusion to this " upgrade" has more to do with comcast waging war with slingbox or other boxes that do remote operation of their services. They are pushing their own brand of remote operation with their apps that are highly managed for content and do not meet my expectations.
I'm guessing that when using the slingbox that the tV is not on normally. If your TV has a side HDMI jack you might just disconnect it there while away. Then the TV wouild not have to be on , the X1 box would then ouput on the other sources with TV off.
