Are you replacing another modem? If you use a smart phone device, install the xfinity My Accound app, login and select the internet 'tab'. on that tab or 'detail' screen you will see the modem model number and 'MAC address' that is entered in your account record. If those numbers match your device's information and the line works with another modem, you may have a bad modem. To be sure you have the latest firmware, unplug the modem for 30 seconds from all power and plug back in and wait for the modem to finish its startup routine.
